Here's an excerpt from the JS story about the robber/killer of Walker's Point.
So, you anti-gun folks, just where and how did this charmer get a gun? He didn't buy it from a Federally licensed dealer, folks.
Says right there in this news report that he should NOT have one. Obviously, he didn't take that too seriously--nor did the criminal who SOLD him the gun.
One wonders if the MPD is pursuing the seller of the weapon.
The relative said the man is on an electronic monitoring bracelet. Court records show that he was convicted of a felony drug charge in late 2006 and received a stayed prison sentence of three years. Part of his conditions of probation was that he not possess any firearms, according to online records.
Right offhand, I'd say we had a massive failure of the justice system...criminal conviction for drugs, (among other rap-sheet entries,) Latin Kings affiliation, ...adds up to a stayed sentence?
Sure.
The relative said the man is on an electronic monitoring bracelet.
ReplyDeleteAnd Walker wants to put hundreds of these people on the street. How's that six dollars sitting now?
Excellent points all.
ReplyDeleteThe blunt fact of the matter is - criminals don't care about laws. That's why they're called "criminals".
If they have no qualms about robbing and fatally injuring a man - a man who fully cooperated with said criminals demands, mind you - why in the world are they going to let some pesky little gun ban stand in their way?
Or they'll go the route of England, where violent crimes with weapons have transferred to knives and blunt-force objects, rather than guns.
All gun bans do is make innocent victims like Mr. Milford sitting ducks. Hell, the State of Wisconsin doesn't trust law-abiding citizens to carry mace or pepper spray.
I'd rather face a knife or blunt-force object, because I know I could defend myself against that. I'd at least have a chance.
ReplyDeleteDad is correct in wondering where the shooter got his gun? If it was an illegal sale, where did the seller get the gun? Was it stolen?
ReplyDeleteBut then again, if the gun was not available, regardless of the cause, would he have been able to use it?
Yes other side, if you were legally carrying a concealed weapon--you'd easily defend yourself against a knife-wielding criminal.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, guns won't go away if they're banned. They'll simply stay in the hands of the criminals that won't abide by socialist mandates.
Neo-con is correct. Bad guys will always have guns. That is a fact.
ReplyDeleteGuns save lives, people. When was the last time you heard about a shooting by a looneytune in a police station or on a shooting range? No, like all predators they prefer to go where the pickin's are easy.
"Says right there in this news report that he should NOT have one. Obviously, he didn't take that too seriously--nor did the criminal who SOLD him the gun."
ReplyDeleteDad, how do we know he got his gun from another criminal? Oftentimes, these folks get their guns from a straw buyer - an individual with no criminal record who buys the gun legally from a registered firearms dealer. Heck, there are dealers here in Milwaukee who are among the nation's worst when it comes to selling to straw buyers.
Despite all the talk about how criminals get their guns illegally, more often than not the guns they possess are often bought under existing laws.
Zach, by definition a straw buyer IS a criminal.
