Some commentators think that the church or the cop-shop should be "the bad guys" for putting the kibosh on a seniors-only social bingo game held at Southridge.
I disagree.
The State Legislature is the "bad guy" for having legislated this asinine crap in the first place.
And the State Legislature's "leaders" should re-write the law to exempt these penny-ante games.
In other words, GET RID OF THE STUPID PROVISIONS IN THE LAW!
Those who advocate "ignoring" the law are wrong. Stupid laws should simply be eliminated, because "stupid" laws only breed contempt for law, legislators, and police.
And our Legislators don't want to be contemptible, do they?
Agreed. Jeff Wagner was taking the opposite approach. IIRC, the only thing this place would need to do to qualify this as a contest rather than a gambling is to not require a purchase to play.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would like to see an amendment to the Constitution prohibiting gaming. There's a better chance of finding Barrett in Milwaukee than that happening. I am not sympathetic at all to the "but there are office pools" argument. There are no office pools exempted because the State doesn't want its courts mitigating disputes that arise from these activities.
The relevant law:

But, Dad, if they got rid of every stupid provision, then anyone senior, educated in the public schools system, would likely be able to understand it. That's the LAST thing they want.
