The Non-Problem of Freeway Patrols

While few would argue that David Clarke is an intellectual giant, it's clear that his opponent, Vince Bobot, is basically pandering to a union, and with a fairly weak case at that. At least Clarke understands that taxes ARE a problem, doesn't run chronic deficits, and works with less dollars. In other words, Clarke understands reality.

Vince Bobot, Clarke's opponent in the Democratic primary next month, criticized Clarke for submitting a budget proposal in June to Walker that went along with a $3.1 million cut without identifying how it would be achieved.

Bobot says Clarke has harmed public safety during his four-year tenure by reducing freeway patrols, eliminating support for victim-witness services and reducing the number of parks patrols.

While I am not a "frequent user" of Milwaukee's freeway system, I drive on them 2 or 3 days every week. If Bobot is trying to make the case that the freeways have turned into jungles because of "reduced freeway patrols," he's full of it. There are few madly-speeding yocks out there.

As to the parks patrols--seems to me that Clarke is putting the muscle where the problems are. Aimlessly driving around unoccupied golf courses doesn't improve "safety," but it does improve union membership.

  1. Well said, but you left out the fact that Liberals ALWAYS want more $$. Doesn't matter if people are hurting, squeeze them some more. After all, it's for their own good.

  2. Well, it's for the good of the Deputies' Union, anyway.

    They're people, too!
