Abp. Dolan can hardly be running around conferring with Marquette University about their homosexual-agenda Department of Weather Channel Jebbies...he has more important things going on at the Cathedral:
April 8: Call to Action Wisconsin annual meeting, [featuring (the forcibly-retired) Bp. Gumby (Gumbleton of Detroit)] and Freddy Kestler, notorious lefty-wacko, who will speak on "Gay Partners and State Law."
Also invited: Action Wisconsin, another notorious Lefty pressure group, now actively opposing
According to The Provincial Emails, our Archbishop is "Dreaming:"
...Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan announced a strategic study and plan for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and a capital campaign for Catholic education...
More like sleeping, I'm afraid. John Allen's forthcoming book: "How to Ignore Heresy, Rebellion, Sexual Predators, Liturgical Massacre, and Natural Law and STILL Become Cardinal-Designate of New York."
HT: Get Up, Get Moving
Action Wisconsin takes no position on the "Taxpayer Protection Amendment." Whoever told you so was mistaken.
ReplyDeleteIt works with conservatives and liberals, Republicans and Democrats, Greens and Libertarians to oppose the proposed constitutional ban. For more on its work--now under the campaign name, Fair Wisconsin--in opposition to the civil unions and marriage ban, check out the No on the Amendment blog. Just a quick look through the blog will show that more and more self-described conservatives are coming out against the ban.
Not with us yet? Check out Charles Sykes' latest column, in which he writes, "conservatives believe, as a rule, that constitutions should limit the powers of government, not of individuals." He also quotes a recent Ann Althouse post, in which she writes that the ban's second sentence "goes beyond what is needed to satisfy traditionalists and takes a gratuitous swipe at benefits currently enjoyed by real families here in the state."
This is a campaign that will unite all of Wisconsin--from Sykes to Xoff, from Mark Pocan to Gregg Underheim, from the Evangelical Lutherans to the UCCers--against an unfair ban that will hurt real people and that, even for those opposed to civil marriage for gay couples, goes too far.
Yours,
Joyce
Sykes is correct.
ReplyDeleteThe Amendment will limit the power of Wisconsin Government to sanctioning what is Right Order.
Althouse is an attorney. Nice lady; but her analysis also includes the "other States" possibility which you fail to mention, Anony.
Good lock with the ELCA/UCC combination. That's about what? 9% of the voters?
Your non-position on the TPA has been noted.
ReplyDeleteBTW, why are you Anonymous? Anybody can go to the WisAction site and view the staff listing...and Board listing, too.
If you read my post, you'll see I signed my name. I don't work for Fair Wisconsin, though I do volunteer from time to time and follow their great work carefully. I didn't see the "other" category before, and I don't feel like registering with another web company. I'm sure you can understand.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who wants can read Ann Althouse's post to determine that she is, quite explicitly, discussing the Wisconsin ban.
Sykes' official position is as of yet "undecided," though he seems strongly to be leaning against and he describes support for the ban on the right as "soft." He also writes: "Exactly how does allowing gays to enter into legal, monogamous relationships undermine the institution of marriage? Isn't it in society's interest to foster and recognize stable relationships? And why would that be something conservatives would oppose?"
For more conservative opposition to the ban, see Representative Underheim's speech here, a strong Mendota Beacon column here or even the good folks over at Letters in Bottles.
By the way, it's not just the ELCA and the UCC; it's also the Methodists, the Presbyterians, and a whole host of others. More churches have taken a formal stand against the civil unions and marriage ban than for it. This is what makes Wisconsin so great.
Even you could join us, Dad29! I think you'd find many of us are a much more amicable and good-natured folk than you think.
Best wishes,
Joyce
Hey Dad29! You Wisconsin-ites better take a look at Jeffrey S. Montoya, national team leader for Dignity (www.dignity-usa.org) who has served in the youth ministry capacity throughout the Milwaukee Archdiocese in both the parish and college campus levels. Presently, he is the vocations director for the Pallotine brothers in Milwaukee.
ReplyDeleteJoyce, I join you in the spirit of comity regarding the debate.
ReplyDeleteSee my post on the topic, coming shortly.
